How to get out of the boxes you’ve been put in all your life

What we have been made to believe is the goal, the height of achievement, the marker of success – congratulations, you made it! Get a comfortable office job – boxes. Get a car – boxes. Get a house – boxes. Organise the material possessions that symbolise just how successful we are into – boxes. Just fill out these forms, ticking the appropriate – boxes.

By now you may find you’re slightly contorted, having spent most of your life reshaping your own unique essence to fit into the boxes created for us since birth. Somehow you’ve been lured into a false sense of security that these boxes will make you happy but, deep down you know, deep down you’ve always known… it’s a cage.

Eat, sleep, work, repeat (add a bottle of wine to the list if you need to add some temporary fun into that).

Your reward for living this “box life” is the occasional validation from another human being… and validation, of course, will provide a temporary light relief from the constant undercurrents from the fears of failure, inadequacy and rejection that flow through the rivers of your soul. The fears that keep you in your box.

A wise human will know that these fears are natural but a conscious human will learn from them. They will learn what is real and what is not. A conscious human does their personal work. It’s work, yes… it’s the murky stuff of taking a look at oneself and truly seeing the reality of that. It’s taking responsibility, it’s not blaming anyone or anything. A conscious human see’s that there is indeed in a box and knows that to make a change on the outside one must first make a change on the inside.

Sounds a bit mumbo-jumbo right? And, who wants to do personal ‘work’ when you have been working all day?

You’re right… so, just stay in your box. It’s comfortable there. I hear wine is a good distraction, you can buy that in a box and go back and put the box on. Find something to watch on the box that will drown out the self-perpetuating feeling of, ‘there has to be more than this?!’

This is how we create order… YES, ORDER. That sweet, calming feeling of everyone being in their box and staying there.

NOT YOU!

Something happens and at night you have dreams. You feel the stirring of your contorted spirit wanting to taste something more. You can see holes in your box shining light of another world… like torch-light beams, they shine on your shadows and you finally begin to see yourself and you begin to do your personal work… you begin to awaken your consciousness.

And here you are, ready and waiting for something… you don’t know what, but whatever it is, it goes deeper than the material world. The rivers of your soul have undercurrents of souls purpose, you feel them flowing through your belly. Overflowing because your new belief of infinite dreams has been raining down for some time.

Your body is a fertile land and you begin to sow the seeds of new possibilities… your dreams and desires rain down and the seeds begin to germinate.

But, while you waited for the sunshine, storms of thoughts began to brew inside and there was no one around to validate you because those around you just want to stay in their own box. And, maybe they don’t like the light of change coming from you.  Moody grey clouds of fear and disbelief threaten to wash out any potential growth of your seeds. There was a rumble in the jungle that you were about to spread your wings, so the mind monkeys came out to keep you safe in your box. Those cheeky monkeys love to sabotage anything that might mean they wont be fed TV and wine.

Many unconscious days were spent trapped back in back in your box. In your vulnerability, the imposter syndrome snuck in through the back door, tethering whatever self belief you had to a rope and dragging it outside like a puppy trapped in the cold storm. Emotions bolt though your body like lightning, hitting your very being. The sound is like shards of broken mirrors, clanging together and chiming the old familiar song of, ‘Who do you think you are?! Get back in your box and stay where you are comfortable.’

Of course, you begin to buckle to the sounds, you drift back towards seeing a safety in the box – a protection, warmth and security, even swallowing the pride and accepting all of the, “i told you so’s” from your friends in box city.

Who the fuck did you think you were?
You knew what you were.

In the darkest moment, something much deeper began to stir. As you lay awake watching your thoughts, you remembered your work… something that you’d forgotten in time. ‘They are not real’, you remind yourself . They are just thoughts that have been passed onto you by all the people in life that wanted to keep you in your box…

The sun began to break through this window of realisation. Warming something in your heart, going much deeper, each ray whispered, ‘dare to dream, dare to dream, dare to dream’.

And you began to talk to yourself, like all the mad conscious people do… ‘What if there is something else that really was pure joy?  What if I really was here on this earth to do this something that is nowhere near this box, that is not comfortable, or safe and doesn’t even feel real?  What if, it was possible?  What if, ME… little me, could make it happen?’

Here is how you get out of your box(es):

YOU BECOME AWARE OF YOUR BOX
YOU GET OUT OF IT

Eat, Sleep, Leap, Repeat!

Well done fellow human! Now your life is more of a series of making leaps over box city. Like a free runner, you are free…  outside, in the fresh air!  Yes, it took some tumbles, you fell in and out of many boxes along the way and still will do… but now you have a new sense of freedom because now you know, no box can trap you, only YOU CAN TRAP YOU.

You are free flying, your spirit has expanded and awoken, tasting life like you never have before. Now you know freedom you feel a huge sense of urgency to do something for the world… you realise that all these years you were not meant to be in a box. YOU WERE HERE FOR A REASON AND YOU HAVE A PURPOSE. You laugh because all along your real purpose was out there, out here. It wasn’t in the box.

True joy and happiness is knowing:
You are here for a reason and you are special.
We are all here for a reason and we are all special.
